This month, we’re taking a big step toward even greater control in Photoshop. With the release of Photoshop 5.8, you can now apply smart previews to your project. Smart Previews let you easily access many of the same tools you use for adjustment on your document, including brush tools and adjustment layers. However, smart previews behave differently. Instead of adjusting your underlying image, smart previews adjust the preview of the active Smart Selection. That means you can make an adjustment and then quickly jump to the next part of your work while still seeing the next part of your adjustment right in front of you. This makes it much easier to correct and adjust your work.
We think you’ll find Smart Previews a great way to get feedback on your work, then dive right back in. You can access Smart Previews at any time from any state in the Crop Toolbox sidebar. Click the miniature, and you’ll see the same adjustments that appear on your document.

The gradient doesn’t have to be to the blur. It can have a linear gradient. It makes the gradient. So the gradient is actually going to be controlled by the top and bottom lines. So for this example we would say top: 60%, bottom: 40%. So. that’s where it starts. The top of the gradient. The bottom of the gradient is going to be the background color, and the gradient is going to go from 60% to 40%. So it just looks like a normal vignette, but it’s not. After this example is done, we might say let’s brighten the vignette. I’m going to use the brightness up to 110. The brightness is always on the outside edge of the vignette. So brightness is represented by this white color, where we might say top: 100%, bottom: 100%.
