A TIE fighter is a spacecraft in the Star Wars franchise designed to carry one or two Starfighters. It was used by the Rebel Alliance in the first two Star Wars films. From the design, it has been speculated that the Empire was not fond of its inherent inability to take off with and land on smaller aircraft.
