It was not my idea. But I liked it.
And so, I embarked on a quest to try every ski area in New Hampshire and Vermont.
As I started, a couple key questions came up:
- How do you keep track? A spreadsheet of course.
- What is on the spreadsheet – every resort that was ever open, or just ones that are open now? There are hundreds of closed ski hills in New England. For sake of simplicity, I decided to include ones that are open, or were just recently closed.
- What constitutes “skiing a mountain”? Do you have to ride every lift, including magic carpets and rope tows? Or ski every run? I decided on a definition of two hours on the mountain, or skiing every run, whichever comes first.
- How tall does a ski area have to be to count? After spending all day driving and “conquering” a 150-foot-tall monster, I decided that there might be a lower bound for some. But that folks should be able to choose their limits.
- Do I have to ski them all in one season? Or could I spread it out over time. I leave this one to you. I’m shooting for “lifetime” first, and then might get aggressive and go for “one season”.
And as I skied away, and told people about my quest, they all asked another question: “Is there a website?”
There is now. Register to join the challenge.
Please enjoy, and if you have any questions or comments, please let me know.
