Chan Forum Masha Babko

Dvach (Russian:, from dva “two” and “chan”), also known as 2ch, is the largest Russian anonymous imageboard.[1] It originally began in 2006 and was shut down in 2009. It was succeeded by many copies, one of which became more popular than the original. It is currently known as 2ch.hk and run by Nariman Namazov, nicknamed Abu. After a major DDoS-attack in 2016, it has been hosted by a state-affiliated company, the Mail.Ru Group, leading many users to believe that it was sold to the company for an undisclosed sum.[2][3]

Dvach has had a number of different boards throughout its history, and still has board duplicates functioning in parallel. However, one of the subjects that the board is widely known for is how the users of the board can give spectacle to their political and ideological views as they perform virtually any act. Having a huge forum in which anyone can start a topic as long as a topic does not violate the board’s rule system, the law of the board often must be taken into account, especially as long as the board is running. Given the overarching influence of the laws, use of the law as a means of performance is exceptionally common on the board. The board has a high social level, and typically has good security, due to the large number of anonymous users. This security allows for the popular use of performance law as a means of activism.

The most famous incident with which the board is associated is the deactivating of the board. The deactivation process was started by Michael Makai (on July 7, 2009, he renamed the board 2ch.net) on July 9, 2009, and was completed by Namazov himself on July 8, 2009. This is because 2ch.net does not allow to register a trademark on its domain name (as other websites do), which means that the deactivation process required a registration of the trademark as part of the deactivation process. The registration of the trademark was completed and the other options were not obtained, ultimately leading to deactivation. The act of deactivation had various reactions on the users and moderators of the board, and was even documented on a website named deactivating2ch for easier viewing.
